Berlin, May 31, 2010 - Welcome to the latest mGuard firmware version 7.1, where Innominate introduces interesting new functionalities and improved NAT routing and VPNs to support more flexible customer scenarios. The new firmware contains a more robust CIFS integrity monitoring method as well as several bug fixes that come directly from our partners and customers who have firsthand experience deploying mGuard products and solutions.

The most remarkable improvements in this mGuard firmware edition:

  • The mGuard NAT functionality is now extended to also allow the masking of external IP addresses
  • The mGuard firewall now tolerates broken TCP packets to work around non-compliant network stacks, such as those of some outdated PLCs

mGuard VPN improvements

  • Listening for TCP-encapsulated VPN connections is now supported, even if the mGuard is located behind a port-forwarding NAT gateway
  • VPN connections with the setting “%any” for the peer address can now be bound to a specific network interface other than the external
  • Listening for TCP-encapsulated VPN connections can be bound to another network interface than the external in the same way
  • Version 7.1 fixes the establishment of TCP-encapsulated VPN connections in combination with a dynamic hostname as the peer address

General improvements

  • Support for automatic backup of each configuration change for mGuard devices with an external configuration storage (mGuard centerport and EAGLE mGuard) has been added
  • Optional time-outs for stale SSH connections and SEC-Stick connections have been added
