Easier start-up with mGuard Easy Initial Setup
Berlin, February 22, 2011 - With the new mGuard 7.2 firmware, the initial operation of mGuard products in delivery status "Stealth Mode" has been significantly simplified. From this version onwards, the "Easy Initial Setup" procedure allows start-up either via preset or user-defined management addresses – even without connection to an external network.
The following three scenarios are supported:
- Fully connected: The mGuard can be interconnected in an existing network connection, i.e. internal and external mGuard network interfaces are connected with a network, and the default gateway of the accessing PC can be reached in the external network. The mGuard webGUI is still accessible as previously under the address https://1.1.1.1/.
- Preset management IP address: If the external network interface of the mGuard is not connected with a network when booting, the mGuard automatically offers the management IP address 192.168.1.1 /24 for access via the internal network interface. While technically still possible, access via https://1.1.1.1/ created problems for many users in this scenario, because the accessing computer had to simulate a relatively complicated MAC address for its physically non-accessible default gateway due to lack of external network.
- User-defined management IP address: When booting with the default settings, the mGuard now additionally starts a BootP client at the internal network interface. Via a BootP server such as the software IPassign.exe, available for free from Innominate and Phoenix Contact, a management IP address can be assigned to the mGuard, through which the device is then accessible.
