Berlin, March 29, 2011 - Aided by the new mGuard firewall and VPN redundancy, it is now possible to combine two respectively identically designed mGuards into a redundancy pair (a virtual router). In the event of a system fault, one mGuard can thus immediately take over functions for the other.

All statuses and connections on both mGuards are constantly synchronized via a special protocol, so that an existing connection is not interrupted in the event of a switchover. According to requirements and the platform used, switching times of between 1 and 10 seconds can be reached.

This firewall and VPN redundancy mechanisms allow uninterruptable operation of the leading security appliances in the industrial environment, and can be used starting from mGuard firmware version 7.3.1. The purchase of an additional license is necessary for the use of the fine-granular parameterizable redundancy mechanisms. One can distinguish here between simple firewall redundancy and VPN redundancy, which already includes firewall redundancy.
